The Sewol ferry disaster

A ferry bound for Jeju sank and 304 people died, most of them high school students on a school trip. Several hours of the response were broadcast live, and an early report that everyone had been rescued proved false. Investigations and trials over the cause and the response continued for years, and the maritime safety and disaster response systems were reorganised.
