Dahyun
TWICE's lead rapper, resident hype girl and now a film actor. Long before debut, she was the kid from that viral 'eagle dance' clip.
Born Kim Da-hyun in Seongnam in 1998. Her official tagline inside TWICE is 'Dubu full of energy'. Dubu means tofu, a nickname she got for her super pale skin, and her member color is literally white. Honestly, that's the whole vibe in one line.
First, the eagle dance, because everyone gets it wrong. It did not get her cast. In 2010, as a sixth grader, she was the main dancer of her church praise team, and during a worship song's line about rising up 'on wings like eagles' she went full wingspan. Someone filmed it, YouTube did the rest, and the move was even spoofed as a Fortnite emote years later. The real casting happened in 2012: in eighth grade she choreographed her own routine, edited her own music and entered a youth dance contest, where a scout from JYP Entertainment spotted her. As a trainee she even popped up in GOT7's 'Stop Stop It' music video.
On the debut survival show SIXTEEN she busted out the eagle again, and one contestant said that girl was definitely making it. She did. After TWICE debuted in 2015 she split rap duties with Chaeyoung, bringing a lower, quirkier tone that played off Chaeyoung's voice, and her lines grew noticeably on Cheer Up. Then came TT. She owned the 'neomuhae' half of the chorus, stood center more than anyone, and the clip spread so fast it got compared to Sana's famous 'shy shy shy'. She has perfect pitch, plays piano for fun and once celebrated her birthday by singing a TWICE track at the keys. Since the Feel Special era in 2019 she's been writing lyrics, and she now lands a solo-written song or two on almost every album.
On variety she's basically the team's MVP. She was the first member with a regular show, joined Real Men's female special as its youngest recruit, and brings zero fear of looking silly, from the ringing-phone dance on Knowing Bros to the chaos dancing on Running Man. Ask her for a sexy pose and she turns red and somehow ends up doing comedy. Her aegyo is awkward, and fans love it more for that. Even Park Jin-young called her the member whose variety sense grew the most.
Fandom lore has a word for her superpower: 'Dubttoka', short for Dahyun found the camera again. Locking eyes with jib cams and ceiling cams is standard, and there's a story of her spotting a fan zooming in from a café one floor above the airport departure hall and waving right at the lens. She later shot and released photobooks under that exact name. She's also the only member with monolids, and fans openly beg her never to get double-eyelid surgery. As for hair, she has cycled through basically every color there is.
Her member ships run deep. She roomed with 99-liners Chaeyoung and Tzuyu, earning the trio the name 'school-lunch squad', and as the only 98-liner she plays big sister to those two. With Momo she's 'Dubu Hanmo' (one block of tofu), and the running joke is Momo mourning every time Dahyun's chubby cheeks slim down. According to Jihyo, off camera she's quiet, calm and not one to vent.
In 2024 she pivoted to film. She led the Korean remake of the Taiwanese hit You Are the Apple of My Eye as Oh Seon-a, premiering it at the Busan International Film Festival, and co-wrote a song for its soundtrack. The role brought her a rising star award and a best new actress prize, and the JTBC drama Love Me took her to TV. The eagle-dance kid has flown pretty far.
