haenyeo (해녀)

Women who hold their breath and dive for shellfish and seaweed. They go down ten metres or more with no equipment, and the whistling breath they release on surfacing has a name of its own. UNESCO listed them in 2016 — and most of those still diving are now in their seventies and eighties.
