On the UNESCO lists

There is one list for buildings and cities and another for things people keep doing. Korea has an unusual number on the second — pansori, gimjang, the haenyeo, Arirang, mask dance — almost all of them things still practised. Listing also carries weight in origin disputes with neighbouring countries, which is why it gets reported as news here.
