Why the towers look alike

A great deal had to be built quickly, and the rules on giving every unit its share of sunlight converged with the floor plan that yields the most space for the least money. That produced the 'matchbox' blocks lined up facing south; these days each brand works to make its towers look different, but the frame has not changed much.
