Beomgyu
The member with the lowest voice in TOMORROW X TOGETHER, which is why he usually opens the song. He plays guitar, writes music, and switches between nonstop chatter and 3 a.m. feelings like it's nothing.
Born Choi Beom-gyu in 2001 in Daegu, his origin story reads like a script. At 17 he was sitting in his dad's car outside school when someone knocked on the window and asked if he was Beomgyu. He said he couldn't come to Seoul for an audition because it was exam week, so the scout, who had already gone back to Seoul, drove all the way down to Daegu again just for him. He auditioned with a guitar and only learned to sing and dance after signing. On his first day as a trainee he was told he was in the debut team. He was the last to join, and in the 2019 pre-debut rollout he was also the last face revealed.
As a secret trainee at Hanlim Arts High School, he got handed business cards by rival agencies at the school gate constantly, and he'd dodge them with fake names like Han Beomgyu or Sim Beomgyu. Debut prep pushed his high school start back a year, so he ended up in school with Taehyun and Huening Kai. After two years of training he debuted with TOMORROW X TOGETHER in 2019 on CROWN, under Big Hit Music, part of HYBE.
With the deepest tone in the group, he's the go-to for intros, hence the fan title 'intro fairy'. That calm low register grounds the songs while the others go high. His dancing is sharp and punchy rather than fluid, and he's known as the one who hits choreo the hardest. He picked up guitar because he wanted to play like the kid in August Rush, and he was in a band club in middle school. He's got writing or composing credits on tracks like Maze in the Mirror, Happy Fools and Blue Spring, and in 2025 he dropped a mixtape called Panic. Plenty of idols write now (idols who write their own), but starting from a single guitar makes his case stand out.
Fans' favorite description of him: 'a kid where 3 p.m. and 3 a.m. live together'. Most of the time he's loud, clingy and full of aegyo, basically the group's 'official five-year-old'. Then he posts a long, quiet diary entry on Weverse and hits you in the chest. Leader Soobin has said Beomgyu's diaries are so honest they put him in a good mood. He's hard on himself, though: as a trainee he cried out of frustration when he was slow to learn a routine. In 2021, three members voted him the person they were most grateful for that year, and his reaction was, 'guess I lived right'.
His emoji history is fandom lore. Tiger 🐯 from the 'beom' in his name, then chestnut 🌰 from the nickname Bamgyu, then bear 🐻 once fans started calling him a teddy, and finally 🧸 after a fan at a fansign asked him to switch to the teddy bear. People say he looks like a Maltese in white clothes, which he loves, and his sudden shrieks are known as 'Maltese yells'. He's terrified of bugs; back in trainee days Yeonjun left practice early just to deal with one blocking Beomgyu's front door. He's also a famously picky eater, and a clip of him eating a single cookie in four bites still circulates.
The connections are fun too. Chatting with BTS member SUGA, who's also from Chilgok in Daegu, they realized they'd lived in neighboring apartment buildings. Bang Si-hyuk once saw him in pigtails and wanted him to promote like that; Beomgyu begged the hair team to kill the idea, and it died. On his solo web show about working out, he said his goal was to get strong enough to physically lift Bang and make him greenlight a comeback. A two-shot with IVE's Jang Won-young at the 2022 Melon Music Awards went viral, and he guested on senior Jin's web show Run Seokjin.
He's a real gamer. Soobin roasted him for promising to reach Master in League of Legends and then dropping to Diamond 4, but in May 2026 he posted proof of his Master promotion and the official LoL account shouted him out. The most magical moment of his career, he says, was their first rookie award: all the pre-debut 'can I actually do this' anxiety paid off at once, and he cried.
