yeonseupsaeng (연습생)

The years spent inside an agency before debut, learning to sing, dance and speak foreign languages while being graded. One year at the shortest, ten at the longest, and far more people never debut than do. It is why K-pop is so uniform in quality, and why labour disputes keep recurring.
